On October 10, 2024, FIA and FIA Japan held the first “FIA Forum – Tokyo 2024, Co-Organized with FIA Japan”. The conference, which was held at the TSE Hall, brought together leading industry experts in the exchange-traded and centrally cleared derivatives.
This year’s inaugural forum began with Introductory Remarks from Hiroshi Nakaso, Chairman of FinCity, Tokyo (below left), followed by Welcome Remarks from Ryusuke Yokoyama, President & CEO of Osaka Exchange (below center). The forum also featured greetings from Hideki Ito, Commissioner of the Financial Services Agency (below right).
FIA’s Bill Herder moderated the first panel discussion on the latest initiatives in Japan's derivatives markets. In the wide-ranging conversation, panelists discussed principles-based regulation for wider investor access, the critical role of investor education, Japan’s steps towards internationalization and future market developments.
The second and last panel of the day was moderated by FIA Japan’s Shun Yanagisawa and focused on industry trends in the Japanese derivatives markets, including how Japan is positioning itself to drive product innovation, the growth-potential of markets, particularly from the retail sector, and the key challenges and opportunities facing market participants.
The 220+ participants, a third of which coming from overseas, had a chance to network with new faces and reunite with familiar faces in a friendly atmosphere, during both the coffee break and the networking reception that followed the forum.
Following the success of the event and overwhelming responses during the registration process, FIA Japan Promotion Committee will consider holding a similar conference on a yearly basis going forward.
